Honor Goodsite’s Big Build Competition Officially Launches for its Second Year!
Honor Goodsite’s Big Build Competition is back following its monumental first year!
Honor Goodsite’s Big Build competition has officially returned for its second year! The Big Build gives Scheme-registered organisations the chance to reach out to community groups, such as schools and youth clubs, to help them design and build famous or fictional structures out of recyclable materials.
The Scheme was absolutely amazed after receiving a whopping 32 entries in the Big Build’s launch year in 2017. The entries included a variety of models ranging from a historic Viking Longhouse to a futuristic self-sustaining railway station. We even had a Gruffalo House!
The Big Build is free to enter and runs from 3 September to 30 November. The competition requires children to think creatively about a hugely important issue; the environment and our impact upon it. They will be able to learn from contractors about how they are reducing their impact on the environment, take that knowledge away with them and apply it at home.
Honor’s competition is the perfect way for contractors to engage with the public, giving participating children and young adults a window into the construction industry. They can learn all about the varied, exciting jobs that come with it.
All entrants need to do is approach a school or community group, set a date for the build, collect recyclable materials – then build! It’s always a good idea to decorate it afterwards!

How to submit your entry:
Once we receive your entry form, you will be sent an instructions and guidance document, which will give you all the information required to take part. To submit your completed entry, you will need to download and fill in an ‘Event Form’ and email it to us via firstname.lastname@example.org, along with as many photos as possible.
The higher resolution images, the better, as this will help when it comes to judging. If you’re having issues sending your high-res photos to us, you can use wetransfer.com. This website will allow you to send up to 2GB worth of files free of charge. Please ensure you gain all the necessary permissions before sending any photos to us.
Thanks to our partnership with ‘Go Construct’, every entry will receive fun packs and certificates for taking part, and this year’s winning entries will also receive a whole host of educational and promotional prizes. All prizes will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Any additional prizes can be purchased separately.
Considerate Constructors Scheme Chief Executive Edward Hardy said:
“Honor’s Big Build helps to deliver three really important messages to children and young adults; how exciting the construction industry is to work in; how important protecting the environment is when creating buildings; and how construction is open to everyone, by having a female industry mascot helping to challenge the perception that construction is only for men.
“Huge thanks to CITB’s Go Construct initiative for partnering with the Scheme to help make this year’s competition even bigger. We look forward to seeing a fantastic range of creative entries from across the UK and Ireland.”
