Our Lady and St Swithin’s Catholic Primary School, Gilmoss

24th May 2006 – 25th May 2006

Children from Our Lady and St Swithin’s Catholic Primary School in Gilmoss, Liverpool were given a lesson in Site Safety from Ivor Goodsite and the Birse CL team, from Liverpool Land Development Company’s Stonebridge Business Park Site.

Following a video presentation, pupils took part in an interactive learning session enabling them to ‘Ask the Experts’ questions about Site Safety and the dangers of playing on a construction site.

‘Ivor Goodsite’ was introduced to the children and with the help from a young volunteer he explained the reasons why Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and how operatives keep safe on site.

Following the presentation, Bob Gibbon, Operations Director for Birse CL commented: “We maintain ‘Safety first, foremost and always’ at Birse and it is essential that we communicate this message to all. We are committed to helping the communities in which we work and with school holidays nearing, we feel that children should be aware of how hazardous construction sites actually are.”

Pupils are also taking part in a Site Safety Poster Competition with children aged 5-11 years asked to design their own Site Safety Poster following on from what they learnt from Ivor and the Birse CL team.
