Children of Nantwich meet Ivor Goodsite
23rd October 2012
Pochin Construction Limited joined forces with Nantwich Library to offer local children the opportunity to learn about construction, site safety and experience up close what happens on a live construction site.
As a local construction company, Pochin place a great deal of importance on interacting with the communities where they build. The Construction Activity Day held involved over 50 local children between the ages of 4 and 11 years of age, taking part in various construction related activities. The children were thrilled to meet Ivor Goodsite, who was there to promote site safety with a ‘Hunt the Hazard’ task. They also got to see what it was like to be a construction worker when tasked with building a house out of lego and put on hard hats and high-vis vests to visit the construction site. On site, the children were taught about the various machinery involved in construction of the new retail unit and observed the bricklayers hard at work.
Lara Da Rocha-Faria, CSR Manager from Pochin ran the two workshops, supported by the library staff and the site construction team, said on the day; “It has been a great success. We have been able to promote the construction industry, highlight the importance of site safety and have some fun at the same time. I think we may have found some budding construction managers of the future – the children were really engaged and asked some great questions”
One young child said it was the ‘best day of his life ever’!
Pochin Construction Limited are building the external structure of the new Marks and Spencer Simply Food store on Beam Street, in Nantwich, for Keyworker Homes, to the value of £1.3m. The building will be handed over by Pochin in December 2012, following which the fit-out will commence. It is proposed that the new store will open in March 2013 offering, 10,000sqft of retail space, including a café and 22 car parking spaces.
