Skanska Open Day

St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London

20th October 2012

Ivor Goodsite was invited along to Skanska’s family open day held at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The event is held annually for staff to show friends and family where they work and the role that they play on the project.

Ivor Goodsite proved to be very popular amongst the children. He showed them how to identify dangerous activities through his game ‘hunt the hazard’, how to correctly wear personal protective equipment and fascinated them with his construction site safety workbook.

Skanska staff conducted various tours around the construction site during the day. The Barts Health Trust New Hospitals Project Manager, Steve Eames, and Clinical Commissioning Co-ordinator, Carol Thrower, also carried out tours of the new cancer centre. While these took place, Ivor kept the children amused with fun health and safety activities along with a children’s entertainer – Nicky Nacky Noo – who provided face painting and balloon animals.

The open day marked the start of Skanska UK’s health and safety week with the theme of ‘Our journey to an injury-free environment starts with you and me taking responsibility’. Involving friends and families provided the ideal opportunity for all involved to focus on what can be done and why it is important to keep each other safe, both at work and at home.

The day was a huge success and having Ivor Goodsite really enhanced the message about keeping ourselves and each other safe.
