Spot the Job sign launched to help young people identify careers in construction
The Scheme joins forces with the CITB to encourage the next generation of workers to climb the rewarding career ladder of construction.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme has collaborated with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to produce a Spot the Job sign enabling children to discover the wealth of career opportunities available within construction.
The large and colourful placard depicts industry mascot, Honor Goodsite, holding a colourful A1 sized poster showing a fictional construction site with a multitude of workers engaging in different jobs.
Now available to sites, companies and suppliers, the sturdy life-size cut-out has been produced as part of the CITB’s Go Construct campaign – a careers-driven partnership involving 200 construction employers, schools and colleges.
Measuring a 1m x 1.48m, the sign is designed to be displayed on the perimeter of sites registered with the Scheme, enabling children to spot a wide variety of jobs available in the construction industry, from architects to roofers and bricklayers.
Aimed at being fun and engaging for young people between the ages of eight and 14, the sign is also educational and inspiring for those considering future career options.
Scheme Chief Executive Edward Hardy said:
“The Scheme is delighted to have collaborated with the CITB’s Go Construct campaign to produce the ‘Spot the Job’ signage. As part of the launch of the new construction industry mascot Honor Goodsite, the signage will be visible across the hoardings of Scheme-registered construction sites throughout the UK. It will help to inform and inspire future generations of young people to understand the wide range of careers available across construction, and to view the industry positively.”
CITB’s Go Construct campaign is now one year old, having been launched in September 2015 to promote the many career opportunities within the industry, and increase recruitment and workforce retention.
Its ambition is to meet the skills shortage of 225,000 vacancies over a five-year period by inspiring and encouraging the nation’s youngest and brightest students to consider climbing the career ladder of construction.
As well as the new sign, the Go Construct campaign includes a careers website which showcases the vast array of employment opportunities, career paths and skillsets the construction industry can offer. To access the Go Construct website click here.
Sites can also hire Scheme mascots Ivor and Honor Goodsite to attend construction-related events and engage with children to promote careers in construction, as well as reinforce the importance of safety on site.
